Monumental multidimensional sets of values —
the imcomprehensible. For reading those we have developed programming languages, software and
other more primitive tools which all serve to simplify them, present them as flat models. Those models are
a necessity to orient oneself within data.
Data is a forest — a vast compound and complex ecosystem. You can’t navigate the forest without models, be it a map which in itself is a multidimensional model connecting natural objects with their simplest properties and coordinates, or a compass or even the sun
which could allow one to create a system of coordinates of their own and find oneself in it (lose oneself).
Orientatsya is a graphic score for 1−4 performers
with synthesizers inspired by the visual language
of topographic maps. At its center is the map of a forest intersected by rivers with a mountain slope to the South.
It is a model which translates a complex multidimensional landscape to a simplified flat language. Embedded in it is the potential to explore and navigate ("orientirovatsya"
in Russian). For the composition a score is akin to a statistical model, a section or a cut of the musical
body not yet ordered in time. The performance is a reconstruction of the musical terrain and its exploration.
