ABOUT ME

My name is Artem Malyshev, and I’m a sound designer and multimedia artist based in Moscow with a diverse and evolving practice spanning various creative fields. Since 2020, I’ve been working on a one-man electronic music project titled "Predposledny". Along with using my primary tools — MaxMSP and SuperCollider audio programming languages, I enjoy delving into various non-musical software (e.g. WorldMachine, a parametric landscape generator; Unreal game engine and Unreal MetaSounds; Blender, Grasshopper 3D, and Hydra visual software; Python and SQL).

I am looking for opportunities to create music and sound design
for places (real or virtual), events and installations, games and film.

In 2020, I completed a course on SuperCollider and released my debut track as Predposledny — "CORRODED," a composition based on the iteration and gradual decay of a pattern. The duration and structure of the track are determined parametrically.
At the end of the same year, I released my three-piece album, "UNSPEAKABLE DANCES". It consists of a short intro and two longer compositions. The intro explores the same processes as "CORRODED" (two low-frequency oscillators: the first gradually changes its frequency and modulates the amplitude of the second, which also shifts frequency gradually). The other two tracks are structurally similar to each other, dealing with emotional rather than mathematical processes (while still relying on shifts in intensity and gradual changes, these changes are more intuitive, not strictly parametric).

In 2021, I enrolled in the bachelor’s programme in sound art and design at the HSE Art and Design School in Moscow, where I successfully completed courses on MaxMSP and traditional DAWs. Throughout that same year, I also wrote three albums and several singles experimenting with software, genres and styles.

In 2022, I created a graphic score for a conceptual composition "ORIENTATSYA" which I later developed into a choreographed performance.

In 2023, I had the chance to collaborate with the architecture studio TOTEMENT/PAPER and create music for a video showcasing their brandy distillery building in the Kaliningrad/Königsberg region. The entire project was part of a larger architectural development commissioned by Alliance-1892, a leading brandy and whisky producer. The music was written, scripted, and recorded entirely in SuperCollider. At the university’s request, I also performed it live at the HSE Art and Design School as a standalone piece with live-coded audio-reactive visuals.

Later that year, I released a desktop application called "ROSA VETROV". In this app, players direct an interactive composition by navigating a fictional landscape. The approximated topography map of that landscape is used to modulate amplitudes and probabilities of various sound events. The concept blends sonification techniques with a retro video game aesthetic, featuring vintage controls with arrow keys and the numpad.

Since 2024, I have been collaborating with the Burnier Winery in Anapa. In the autumn of that year, I created a generative soundscape titled "DEGUSTATION" for their tasting room in the village of Natukhaevskaya. I’m currently in the process of composing music for an upcoming exhibition of contemporary artists that will take place at the winery.
